Say What?

If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother {another Christian}, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen– I John 4:20? It is impossible to say with genuine conviction that I love God if one hates. This word hates means to slight or dislike; however, the emphasis here is not on the negative (the slighting and disliking), but rather the emphasis is to focus on the love of God. As God’s love cannot be seen, neither can God be seen, but what can be seen are those whom God has called, those who are children of God, and whom God Himself loves. And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also– I John 4:21.” ~LMJ~
