God Is Light

Written by Larry M. Jaynes:

 I John 1:5:
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

What a divine message this is to declare to the children of God, that “God is light,” and in Him there is no darkness at all! Growing up I thought that God brought harm to His children when they made mistakes. Nevertheless, if this were true, then there certainly would be darkness in Him; however, and thankfully our “God is light,” and He is the essence of life, energy, and creation.

Ephesians 5:8:
For ye were sometimes {in} darkness {before salvation}, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

In our last study, we saw that “God is Spirit,” and we were encouraged in the Scriptures to walk in the spirit, and now we see that “God is light” and we are encouraged to walk as children of light. When we walk in the light of God’s Word, we indeed walk in God Who is light!

I Thessalonians 5:5a:
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: . . .

Indeed, we are “the children of light, and the children of the day.” “Children of the day” is a description of us today, for every day we are now and always will be God’s precious children. “Beloved, now are we the sons of God” declares the message in I John 3:2, because it is so. Even though sometimes you might think – “I’m more like a child of the night,” remember that there is nothing that you could do so wrong that you were no longer your earthly mother and father’s son or daughter – the same is true of us as God’s precious family.

James 1:17-18:
-17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above {from God}, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. {Because God emanates light from every direction leaving no shadow, thus, “in Him is no darkness at all.”}
-18: Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures {creation}.

Isn’t the Word of God so inspiring? We were “begat” (or begotten), meaning that we are born into God’s light, and into His very own household (Ephesians 2:19), and we verify this throughout “the word of truth.” The more we discover the “Father of lights,” the more light is introduced into our lives allowing us to see the treasure we are and illuminating the treasures we truly have in Christ.

When walking in the light one can discover the warmth of the Father’s eternal embrace, for as God is light, so are you in this world!
