The Perfect, Complementary Counterpart

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh– Genesis 2:24. This is the way God set up marriage from the beginning; that a man shall cleave unto his wife, and they become one flesh. Cleave means to join and hold fast, and one flesh means to be united together with unity of purpose. Obviously when two people marry, they are two distinctly different people with two different bodies. The word flesh represents their lives coming together to complement each other and to enhance each other’s abilities. In Genesis 2:18 and 20, God made Adam a help meet which means God’s gift of a complementary counterpart, and that would go for both the man and the woman as they learn to become one flesh. When a couple works together helping one another, they both independently grow as heirs together of the grace of life (I Peter 3:7) as perfect complementary counterparts to each other.” ~LMJ~
