Written by Larry M. Jaynes:
Psalms 48:14 – For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.
Let us first take a closer look at the last phrase, “he will be our guide even unto death.” This phrase can sometimes be misconstrued to mean that God guides His children into death. However, this is not the correct understanding of this phrase because our God is the God and Creator of life! The words “even unto death” mean “even over death.” Death is never a blessing from God, and God will guide us through the heavenly gates of eternity rather than guiding us into the pits of hell! This is why the middle section of this verse states that He is our God “for ever and ever” because even after death there is a resurrection, a gathering together, and an eternal life to be received and eternally enjoyed.
If Christ does not return before our last breath, then we will be gathered up together to be with God when he returns for us (I Thessalonians 4:14-18). However, Christ may return at any moment, and so our hope is to never die, but either way we will be guided into eternity with the loving hands of our Creator, and in this there is comfort because God is always our God!
The word “God” means “the Creator” and signifies His vertical relationship to that which He has Created. God values His relationship with His children whom He has Created. This unending relationship with the Creator will continue and guide us through the eternity of eternities, and we will forever appreciate God in all His fullness and His abundance.
The last chapter of a man or a woman’s life does not end at the grave, but their life will continue throughout all of eternity, forever and ever, even over death. Thus, the Psalmist boldly proclaims “God is our God!”
Finally – I want to close out today’s Bible byte by allowing God’s Word to speak directly to our hearts regarding death’s final end, and the believer’s end. (The believer’s end will in actuality be a new beginning.)
I Corinthians 15:26 – The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Revelation 20:14a – And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.
THE BELIEVER’S END:
Romans 6:22b – ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
